Capital Projects Update

BWSC is currently finishing up its newest water well located at the intersection of Jeter and Porter Rds. in Bartonville, TX. The well should be in use by the end of October. This well is the largest producing of all BWSC’s water wells at 1,000 gallons per minute or approximately 1.5 million gallons per day. In addition, sometime in November, BWSC will begin drilling a second well at its StarGate site. This is a 4+ acre site located at the end of I.T. Neeley Rd. in Bartonville.

These new wells will be used to help meet the current and future demands on our system and will benefit all BWSC members. Through our distribution systems network of water mains, including 16” and 24”, water can be distributed efficiently to all portions of our system. Combining production between the newest well and the soon to be drilled well, BWSC hopes to have increased its available production to an additional 3 (MGD) million gallons per day.

By drilling these water wells, BWSC can reduce its dependency on more expensive surface water. Three MGD of surface water would cost approximately $975,000 per year if it were purchased through our surface water supplier the UTRWD. This would be an on-going annual expense. In addition to the $975,000 per year, BWSC would also be required to pay for every gallon of this surface water used. As a result, BWSC is attempting to limit further subscriptions for surface water.

BWSC is also in the process of installing VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) motor controls at its Copper Hill pump station in Copper Canyon, TX. VFD motors, simply put, control the motor/pump that pushes water into the system. The controls can make the motor work at its maximum capability or much less, depending on the service areas demand for water. As a result, the amount of electricity needed and used can be greatly reduced which is of benefit to BWSC as well as COSERV. In addition, since the equipment does not work at its maximum rated ability, 100% of the time, its life expectancy can be extended. The Copper Hill pump station is our largest and like all of our pump stations sends water to all areas of our system.

BWSC is also currently obtaining a water line easement across private property, that will allow us to install a water line for the purpose of creating a loop at the southern edge of our service area. Once installed, this 3,500’ of water line will allow us to flow water in two directions, eliminate two “dead end” mains and serve additional customers.
